Village Scene Productions is currently accepting applications for auditions for the upcoming production of:

La Résurrection de Jeanne d'Arc – The Second Coming of Joan of Arc
by Carolyn Gage; Translation into French by Stéphanie   Sullivan. Directed by Liz Valdez.

Joan returns to share her story with a contemporary audience. She reveals her experiences with the highest levels of church, state, and military, and unmasks the brutal misogyny behind these male dominated institutions. Inspired by the source material, Vita Sackville-West's biography of Joan that is based on transcripts on the complete translations of the trial transcripts, this is an attempt to remove the myth and to uncover the truth about Joan and to reclaim her from the distortions and trivializations of male historians.

This one women solo performance will be presented in both French and English the summer of 2010. -Potential for touring in the fall due to the feasibility of the production; based on the popularity of the piece and availability of the performer. Applicants should be experienced and professionally trained in theatre performing arts. You must be fluent in both languages: French and English; without any trace of an English accent when speaking in French. You will also need to memorize a large amount of text. Finally you should be capable of and comfortable with physical movement.

Physically you are Caucasian, of average height and proportional weight. She is not a beauty and has a certain masculine traits in her appearance and mannerisms. Very strong willed, with plenty of conviction and determination. Age category of actress not a limiting factor but the actress should be able to play the age of the character, eighteen.

Call-backs scheduled for mid-March; Casting completed by end of March. Rehearsals start in April; schedule based on availability of the actor and the director. This is a solo performance of approximately 75 minutes. -Non-union; VSP contract, remuneration, a minimum fee plus gross profit share; touring expenses if applicable.

To prepare for the first round of auditions candidates will be asked to present a contemporary dramatic monologue (approximately 2 to 3 minutes) of their choosing. Perusal copies of the texts are available for viewing at the Quebec Drama Federation (QDF); interested candidates must contact QDF directly to arrange for a time during their opening office hours.

Davyn Ryall presents the French world premier of the multiple award winning critically acclaimed and controversial play “ The Second Coming of Joan of Arc ” by the feminist, activist, lecturer, and playwright, Carolyn Gage. This is also the first time that this world-renowned play will be presented in English in Montreal. The play has been translated and performed into other languages including Portuguese and was produced in Brazil. Carolyn Gage has toured the globe, including Belfast and Toronto, performing this piece.

This will mark VSP's 20 th production and 8 th French production in eight years; Previous French and bilingual productions were: Mauvais Match (2002, 2004), Sarah Kane Psychos 4.48 (2005), William et James (2006), Conte de Noel, Conte de Noel Flyée (2007), et Bunbury: L'Importance d'être Constant (2009).
